  • Managed all print and mail operations including 30% staff turnover and new equipment installations for three shift production. Maintained budgeted labor levels and identified and implemented material cost savings despite market price increases.

  • Taught graduate and undergraduate classes including software requirements and design for the CIS department. Received excellent student feedback and requested by department to teach more classes.

  • Contracted to teach supply chain management to MBA students as well as being requested to teach database design and software assurance in the CIS department.

The Power Alternative  (TPA, Inc.)           -            President            -       Feb. 2008 – March 2013

  • Led the financing and installation of the TPA biodiesel production facility which was completed in less than nine months (half the industry standard startup time and cost).Bond financed the operation at LIBOR +1%.

  • Automated and operated an RFS2 certified biodiesel processing facility. Removed bottlenecks to produce ASTM D6751 certified fuel at a rate of one-barrel-per-minute.

    • Developed and implemented innovative and energy efficient technologies for chemical separation, neutralization, and dehydration.

  • Consulted for several communities and the government of Alberta on alternative energy, oil sands, and agriculture as part of the New West Opportunities team.

  • Led Research together with Michigan State University, Western Illinois University, the University of Detroit-Mercy and Focus: HOPE. Developed non-food biofuel feedstocks as economical viable crops on urban land and other marginal (non-food) farmlands. Formed Metro Ag Services and Start Detroit to manage crushing business and urban farming activities.

    • Researched and developed a patent pending algae photo-bioreactor.

  • Plastech Engineered Products grew from $300 million in annual revenue to over $1.3 billion in annual revenue during the five years I was at the company.Plastech became one of the largest automotive injection molding companies in the world and supplied components to every automotive OEM in the U.S. www.plastecheng.com

  • Managed up to 14 facilities with profit and loss responsibility of over $300 million and more than 2,000 employees: Romulus 1, Frenchtown 1 and Frenchtown 2, Talon Court, Grandville, Clarkston, Hartland, Croswell, Port Huron, Bryan, Wauseon, Napoleon, Kendallville, and Chicago

  • Every raw material, component and production process was managed two decimal places past the penny for cost, resulting in >30% operating margins.

  • Took over the launches and transfers department whose struggles had damaged our quality ratings. Despite the large number of launches, 2007 was Plastech’s best launch record ever and quality ratings (50% PPM reduction) and customer satisfaction numbers (Ford Q1, Toyota, JCI, and DCX) all improved as a consequence.

  • Presented to S&P and investors for the successful bond financing of the $290 million LDM acquisition.

  • Managed the day one transition of finance, IT and production systems together with BBK.All systems transitioned seamlessly and the former LDM quickly adopted Plastech systems for business management with significant improvements in profitability.

 

Plastech Engineered Products - General Mgr, Plant Mgr, and Asst. Plant Mgr - Nov. 02 - Nov. 05

  • Turned around the quality performance (on Mazda 6 and F150) and achieved record profitability numbers (>40%) at the Romulus Plant while growing from 50 to 500 employees and adding 75,000 square feet.

  • Promoted to General Manager over additional facilities including three plant construction projects (Chicago, Frenchtown, and Frenchtown 2).Each facility became profitable and attained quality certifications (all Q1) while taking on several distressed programs from other molding companies.

 

Visteon Corporation   -    Business Planner and Marketing Analyst      -      Apr. 1999 - Nov. 2002

  • Developed business plans and customer quotations for driver information products.

  • Designed, developed, and rolled out a web based:

    • Global Quote Tracking System which confidentially shared internal Visteon information globally.

    • Electronics Engineering Work Task Cost Tracking and Engineering Change Control System for budget and product engineering management.

Earned the 2001 Visteon Electronics Business Planning Process Leadership Award as a result.

  • Led technology partnership with Texas Instruments in providing DLP based instrument clusters.

 

Ford Motor Company   -  Various Operations and Engineering Positions  -  Jun. 1989- Apr. 1999

  • Production Supervisor - improved quality and maintained throughput at 78 vehicles per hour in every area

  • Industrial Engineer – achieved annual 10% headcount reductions and ergonomic improvements including a number of automated work cells (steering columns, windshields, engine decking, roll test, and tire balance)

  • Chassis Quality Engineer - solved alignment, wheel balance, and braking issues which ultimately took Escort vehicle chassis quality from the Worst-in-Ford to the Best-in-Class across all small vehicles in America earning the Ford 1996 VC1 Award of Excellence for Chassis Quality Improvement.

  • Managed the launch of 14 variants of the legacy F150 truck platform as well as several cab over engine Cargo trucks at the Ipiranga Truck Plant in Brazil. Launched the brand new medium duty (P131 - F250) and heavy duty (H215 - community service truck) vehicles on time and under budget!
